Make room for the words.

Open one or more Markdown files with Open file, or drag them onto this window. Use Ctrl / ⌘ + O to open a file and your browser’s Ctrl / ⌘ + F to find text.

Read shows a formatted document. Edit opens a Markdown editor with live preview, formatting buttons, and undo/redo. Save .md lets you choose a file location in supported browsers; elsewhere it downloads a copy. Ctrl / ⌘ + S also saves. Edits stay in this window until saved. Source shows the current Markdown. Notes on passages you change are kept as unplaced notes. Save .md exports document text; use Export backup for highlights, notes, and separate to-dos. Choose Width: Wide or Width: Full for more room. Focus hides the sidebars for even more space. Your width preference is remembered. PDF / Print opens your browser’s print dialog; choose “Save as PDF” for a PDF copy.

Offline app downloads one HTML file. Save it somewhere convenient and double-click it to open markeddowndotmd in your browser, even without internet. Bookmark this page for quick access.

Document contents stay in this window’s memory and are cleared when you reload or close it. Highlights, notes, checkbox progress, and added to-dos are saved in this browser. Reopen the same unchanged file to restore them; a file changed outside markeddowndotmd starts a new set. Editing inside markeddowndotmd carries forward unchanged highlights and keeps other notes as unplaced notes. Select text and choose Highlight or Add note. Click a highlight to edit its note. Use Notes & to-dos to manage notes and add tasks. Browser storage can be cleared, so use Export backup to keep a copy or move your notes between the online and offline apps. External images wait for you to choose “Load image”; that request goes to the image’s host.

This viewer supports standard Markdown, tables, and task lists. Embedded scripts are removed. Mermaid diagrams and math remain as text.

A thought for later.
